โGuhyasamajaโ means โAssembly of the Secret Onesโ (Tib. Sangwa-dupa) or โSecret Unionโ. The Guhyasamaja tantra is also referred to as the King of Tantras. In Tibet, Guhyasamaja is particularly favored by the Gelug tradition, most likely for the antiquity of his texts. It was one of te first Sanskrit scriptures to be translated into Tibetan in the 8th Century. It serves the Buddhist practitioner in understanding and practicing Tantric Buddhism.
Guhyasamaja is depicted in peaceful appearance, with a stern expression, he is blue in color, with three faces and six hands, embracing his consort Mamaki. Guhyasamaja is one of the main tantric deities (yidam) of the esoteric practice in Gelug tradition. The seated couple is shown in sexual embrace, each deity has three heads and six arms, their crossed hands are holding a Vajra and Bell. Their right hands hold a lotus and the wheel and left hands hold a sword and a flaming jewel. The deities represent the same enlightened nature indicated by their implements, which together symbolize the union of all the qualities of the Buddha families. Akshobya, which means โthe immovable,โ is believed to help the practitioner to master anger, one of the main afflictions that perpetuate the endless cycle of death and rebirth.
This is a Tibetan Style Thangka Scroll Painting which is entirely hand painted by the experienced artisan using same ancient techniques. This Guhyasamaja Thangka Scroll Painting is hand painted on cotton canvas with 24 karat gold detailing; by the artisans of Patan in Nepal who have been in the business from generations.
